East Tennessee State University (ETSU) GPA

Ugh!!!! I was denied for the Spring traditional 4 year program. I am a 3.308 GPA, that is a B+. Anyone else care to share what they got in with? Does C still = RN??? ;-)

Well, just talked to the director through e-mail and the cutoff was 3.6, WOW.

When folks say "C=RN," they mean Cs in your classes once you're in nursing school ... There is so much competition these days for the limited number of "slots" available in nursing programs that schools are forced to be v. selective and only students with the highest GPAs are competitive candidates. My last teaching job was in a state U BSN program (the school and the program were nothing special, believe me!) that was v. proud of the fact that none of the incoming nursing students each year had less than a 3.6 GPA (that wasn't a formal "cut-off" point, that's just how it worked out). This is just the reality of nursing schools these days, and I doubt it will change as long as there is this much demand (many more applicants than the schools can accommodate).

:-) Thank you for the response. I am seeing scary things on some of the other threads about new graduates not being able to find jobs. I have wanted to be a nurse for so long and am finally at a point where I can try to get in. I hope that the market is not flooded by the time I graduate!!!

Was that your GPA in just the pre-reqs? Which classes did you take?

Was that your GPA in just the pre-reqs? Which classes did you take?

Yes, just in my pre-reqs except that I have to have Spanish I and II to make up a high school unit deficiency. I have taken Spanish I already and am reapeating it because that is a class that I made an C in, along with prob and stats (which i am also repeating)

I took:

ENGL 1010 crit reading exp writing

ENGL 1020 crit thinking/argumentation

SPCH 1300 General Speech

MATH 1530 Prob/stats

HIST 2010 us history till 1877

HIST 2020 us history from 1877

ENGL 2110 american lit

MUSC 1030 Intro to music

PHIL 2020 Intro to ethics

PSYCH 1310 intro to psych

SOCI 1020 into to sociology

WMST 2010 intro to womens studies

HSCI 2010/11 a&p I

HSCI 2020/21 a&p II

HSCI 2230/31 microbiology

SPAN 1010 spanish I

I am applying to ETSU with a GPA of 3.76 and ALL of my classes were calculated - not just pre-reqs. btw, I have a bachelor's degree. I'm thinking I'll be accepted, but just imagine not being accepted because you went to school for FOUR years and had all those classes to count. It's a tough program.
