I worked at East MS. back in 1996...the Skilled Units are okay. They have rebuilt and updated some of them. I worked in the Intermediate Care Facility on the male ward (the women will drive you crazy) and I liked it. Most of the guys had been institutionalized most of their lives and they knew the drill. The psych wards used to be pretty rough... I didn't have to deal with them. Have you considered working for Alliance?
What is alliance? I am considering for a work there in Eat Mississippi State Hospital and I just want to know what it is like to work there... I am a foreign trained nurse that's why I am curious about the place... Thank you very much for your reply!
Alliance is an inpatient psychiatric hospital. They serve children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. I worked there when it was LaurelWood...I helped open the children's unit and I worked with adolescents until then. I loved it. The teen-agers can be hard to handle and even violent at times. You have to make decisions and be willing to stand by them. However, at the end of most days I felt like I had done some good. Anyway, Alliance is on Hwy 39 near the Hill St. intersection. It should be listed in the phone book. My understanding is that they always need nurses; I know they were using alot of agency at one time. If I still lived in the area, I would work there. If you enjoy psych nursing, it could be a good fit. If you are interested in medical nursing, Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian is hiring. Be warned, though, you will definitely stay VERY busy at Rush. (My son is a RN in the Meridian area so I keep up with what is going on. However, he works in Jackson now).
Good luck! If I can be of any help, let me know.

I would like to tell you that East MS State Hosp.Is a Psychiatric Hospital. On all levels. The Hosp was built in the late 18 hundreds.
I have 20 yrs exsperince going to this hosp. It's old, mold,& the care they give the patients is way to confining.A beautiful Grove is there.Patients aren't allowed to enter..Our human desire is to be with nature & being outside..The Hosp.desperatly needs to be condemed! How can a patient get better quicker in such a confined, dark, prison like atmosphere? So,No..I would'nt suggest anyone working with this hosp. who's main concern is money, keeping the beds full is The Golden rule.If you have full Insurance-Medicare/Medicaid you are there for along time..It's SAD our own health care system treats Mental Patients with No Respect..The Patient learns to play the game..Yea,I'm sick,I'm getting better..when most are sent there by a Judge/Doctor who is hired to keep those beds full...Lane*

hi there, im also planning to work there.. anyone work there? how was it? i'm a foreign grad nurse too
Re: East Mississippi State Hospital
hi there, im a foreign grad nurse too..do u know any hospital thats hiring now there and will be giving working visa for us foreign grad nurse aside from east mississippi state hospital? thanks a lot :)
East Ms,Hosp is not the place to work..sorry.
you would do better to find work that isn't ran and paid for by the state, which causes poor health care.
I had one family member there in and out for 20 years.she complained of the mold..moldcankillyou.org or.com...
The confinement is a disgrace for a human to live in for a month, months, maybe years.
she always had a home, some do not, plus most all there as patients are there for drug addiction,
not for mental and they use it to get out of trouble, that's why they call it duel diagnosis.
drugs create mental.you take the drugs away the mental goes away too.
besides we all know psychirotry is a dam fraud.you know it and I sure do too.
Like I said before it's a racket to keep the beds full.they will push one out to recieve another.
they are a pittifull hosp and should have been condemed yrs ago.
I am thankfull I never developed some sort of what ever mental illness.
a friend of my sister,Tina went their and because she was to return, she shot herself dead!
If that doesn't tell you somethings wrong about this hosp.I don't know what will.
Tina was sad from the loss of her father,
she went once, never to return,I'd mark it up as the MS>State Hosp.Fault! Tracy Lane

hi!
i am wondering if any foreign nurses have heard of green card petition for those who wants to work in Mississipi?
Is there truth to it?since as far as i know, there is visa retrogression for foreign nurses...
for those who have migrated to work in this hospital, what can you advise for those who will be going there in terms of cost of living, good neighborhood, salary ,etc.

I had a aunt that was a patient at East MS on one of the psych wards. To be honest, that was a scary place on the psych wards. The ward when they first send psych patients is the scariest one. When they become better they move patients to different floors which aren't so bad. To each it's own. They have other areas like the nursing home that isn't that bad.
