Early Pregnancy and Precautions

Hello all,

I recently found out I am about 6 weeks pregnant and I work a general Med/Surg floor, However our floor is unique in we take all ages and all conditions, we have pediatrics to elderly, tele patients, infectious disease patients, general medical and ALL kinds of surgery from hysterectomys to total joints. I'm feeling well so far, just a little nauseated and tired and I'm not looking for medical advice, just wondering how anyone else out there coped with this and not telling co-workers yet? I'm frequently involved in MRSA and c-diff and know I need to avoid shingles, but any other precautions anyone else has taken? Also, I would like to work right up to my due date if possibly, but these 12 hour shifts are crazy busy. How far along did you all make it before being taken off work?

I worked until delivery in a busy rehab. Also the shingles is only if you directly touch the sore.

I had to confess at 7 weeks because I hadn't seen my OB and I couldn't find reliable information about what was and wasn't safe for me to expose myself to. I was assigned an active tb patient after a lactating RN refused the patient. I figured if she couldn't take him, I certainly couldn't.

I'm in my second pregnancy while working as a M/S RN. I frequently care for patients on contact Iso for MRSA C. Diff, I did refuse a TB patient during my first pregnancy. I would hope not to have to take care of anyone on droplet precautions, but the situation hasn't arisen.

I'm worked until 35 weeks pregnant the first time. I could have gone a few more weeks but just didn't want to, I was tired, achy and had no patience. I'm 20 weeks pregnant know but I really need to make it working til 38 weeks this time for financial reasons.

luckily Im part time now and work in a new hospital where they offer 8 hour shifts, so I might give up the 12 hour shifts once I hit the 3rd trimester
