My husband just got a now job, YAY, that will require about a week of travel a month. This concerns me for the future because of the early hours associated with clinicals and work after graduation.
What do all you working parents do for daycare? My son is already in a GREAT day care and I am not willing to pull him out of it, unless I can find a day care that opens earlier than 7am (6am would be nice). The problem is we don't know anybody here and will most likely need to hire somebody to come to our house and take our son to daycare on the mornings where I have to leave early. Has anybody experienced this sort of situation, or have any advice? Do day cares open @ 6?

The earliest I have found around here is 7 or 7:30. Is there any way a neighbor or friend could take the kids to day care just that one day a week if your husband happens to be out of town for that week?
If he has a few weeks notice it would probably be enough time to line up that kind of thing. I had to ask a friend down the street to pick up my kids and wait about a half hour for the sitter while my husband was out of town once, so I didn't have to miss a clinical day.
If worst comes to worst you can do a virtual hospital (project) to make up for a day of missed clinical. Instructors are usually more willing to be flexible if you talk to them about it in advance and ask them what your options are. I had to miss a day and the instructor that rotation was cool with me coming in an hour early a few times extra to make up for the missed day (these were summer clinical 5 1/2 hour days). It really just depends on the instructor and that rotation.

Check out some home based daycare, I found a great lady in my neighborhood that opens at 6 and gives me a great rate just because I'm her neighbor. Your county website might have a list of them, I live in PWC so I'm not sure about Fairfax. They also list any violations and such with that provider.

I don't know where you are, but here in Burke, Kindercare opens at 6:30.
I feel for you. I'm sort of in that position myself. My DH works in DC and he has been leaving really early to miss traffic. My kids are in elementary school, so I have to find a daycare that will transport them to school as well. It's frustrating that it has to be so complicated.
You might want to try sittercity.com and care.com. They list babysitters/nannies. I have been trying to find a sitter via those sites, but without much luck honestly. But I've heard that others have good results.

Looks like you've gotten several good suggestions already. Home daycares are a good option because they might be more flexible. You can find licensed (with the county) providers online. Are you in Fairfax or PWC? I am in PWC and there were several facilities around here that opened at 6am when I started searching a few months back including Children of America, Minnieland, and La Petite. I ended up going with a home provider for awhile before my son got accepted at the CDC onboard Quantico (we're military so that was a good option for us.) You can also look for providers on craigslist but always check references!!

In Manassas City (PWC) my daughter attended Minnieland and they were open from 6am - 7pm. They really accommodate the families that work in other cities/counties. Hope that helps and you find something convient. Good Luck!!!

Yes, I am in the Wellington Community. Right on Acer Lane. My MIL lives right across the street from Giant. Nice to (PC) meet you! :)
I am in the Wellington Community myself. Wellington Place apartments actually. :) My son goes to Metz Middle... :)
I go to ACT college down the road right now... just getting my certs as an MA (backup plan) in case the Nursing program takes a while to get into.
That's cool that you and your family live so close...

I know, small world. My daughter goes to Metz and I am attending ECPI. I am also doing the MA program, until I can get into the LPN program. Wow!!!
Holy cow!!! LOL What grade is your daughter in?? Maybe she knows my son?
Where is ECPI? I chose ACT because it's just down the street from here. Is their program any good?? Where are you trying to get into the LPN program??? That might be an alternative for me as well if I can't get into the BSN program right away.
How long ago did you start your MA program? I just finished my first module... so I have 4 more to go after I finish this new one. (I began the program right after Labor Day).
Do you work? I only work part time, at Fresenius Medical Care, up in Fairfax. Lets chat more... maybe one day we can get together and compare notes. :)
