DWI 6 months before graduating nursing school

Published

Hello,

I am a 22 year old nursing student in Texas. I am currently in my last semester in an ADN program. I always imagined this time to be a time of rejoice but right now I feel the exact opposite.

In October 2017 I went out bar hopping with a friend. In total I had 6 drinks. That night I remember being ok until I got to the last bar and had a Jack and Coke that a guy bought for me. after that i remember feeling sick to my stomach. Shortly after the bar was closing and my friend and I decided to go back to our cars. When I got to my car, all I remember is telling my friend that I feel really sick and she telling me to sleep it off in my car (I still question why she left me that night knowing that I was not ok to drive). Long story short, I did not sleep it off and started my car to drive home. I was turning into my neighborhood when I saw flashing police lights behind me. This is when i realized that I fell asleep behind the wheel and to make matters worse, it appeared that I wrecked my car. When the police pulled me over, I refused the breathalyzer, took the field sobriety test, and because I appeared intoxicated, I had blood drawn to determine my bac level. I was then arrested for a DWI.

Fast forward to now, I hired a lawyer, I just had my ALR hearing about my license suspension and the decision was to suspend my license for 180 days. Now I have to wait for my next court date that will decide what my conviction will be. Right now, I don't know what to do. My blood test has not returned to determine my bac level and since my case is still open I dont know if I should start anexplanation to the Texas BON.

Should I go ahead and send what I know about my case to the TBON? or should I wait until my blood test is back and I have been convicted? Mind you, I am 22 years old and this is the first time I have ever been in trouble. EVER. I do not have an alcohol problem considering I haven't touched it since that night. And to be honest, I have never been so irresponsible. Nursing is my dream and I regret putting myself in a situation that risks my career. Please give some advice on how I should approach the TBON and what I should send them about my case.

Thank you!

I would not disclose information on the case until decisions are final. It will help the TBON make their decision faster and with less "what if's."
