Hi everyone. I am currently a staff nurse in ICU and have been for about 2.5 years. Prior to that I worked in med-surg, and before that LTC. Anyway, I am pursuing a dual Masters degree in Nursing and Health Administration and am now applying to more leadership type jobs away from the bedside (i.e. nursing supervisor, bedflow coordinator, implementation team member, etc.) and of course when filling out applications or submitting resumes, you must always describe your duties at your current job. How do you all describe your duties as a staff nurse? I'm trying to be concise, but also not downplay all of my responsibilities. I've also been charge quite a bit, so I try to mention that, but I still feel like I'm not listing everything, and plus you only have but so much space. What do you guys think ar the duties of a staff nurse?

I would sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, pen and paper and think myself through what I do, write these thoughts down as they come to you, when you finish the list, see if you can summarize it in a way that doesn't downplay what you do yet gives an adequate description of your duties/responsibilities. This always helps me get things in perspective. Good luck and Happy New Year!!
