How do you properly do Pericare on a resident who uses the toilet. I am new at the whole CNA thing. They tell you how to change a brief in bed but not on a person who is able to use the toilet. I would like to know the step by step process including when to change gloves and sanitize hands...like I said I am very new to all of this.

Well I'd say if they are on the toilet and they need help wiping just put on a pair of gloves and help them wipe clean as you would for yourself. Then when you are finished have them stay on the toilet while you take off your gloves and wash your hands. Then help you resident back to bed or in their wheelchair.
Hope that helps

You can also apply a new brief with them sitting on the toilet.

If they can, have them stand and hold on to the grab bar facing away from you. From there you can clean and dispose of the TP into the toilet. I liked keeping peri-wash on the back of the toilet (if your facility allows that) to help get extra clean. I'd spray onto TP and then wipe. Ensure that you're wiping front to back. This can also be done with a sit to stand lift, just raise them off the commode a little.
