So, because I could not decide that one of these two certifications was tangibly superior to the other in some significant way, I decided to register for both exams and take whichever one would let me schedule the exam for the earliest date. I figured I would then just withdraw from whichever one I didn't need to take.
AANP was very timely with approving me to test and I was able to schedule the exam for a date 2 weeks out which seemed perfect for me.
ANA/ANCC gave me a refund minus their $140 "administrative fee."
It's right there in a certain area of their website. I overlooked it or perhaps didn't happen to have reviewed that particular area when I was making my plans.
I am sure others will appreciate your cautionary tale! It sounded like a good idea. I have paid my fair share of "I didn't read the fine print" tax in my life. Good luck on your exam!!
