Duke CRNA FAll 2018

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I have never started a thread before so here it goes!!! I have just applied to Duke CRNA program for Fall 2018 I would love to hear from others who are going through the same process.

And can someone help me out with "Total CO2"? Dr. V hit me with that question and I fumbled around like a total newbie. Lol. I didn't ever come across this in my CCRN studies.

Anyhow, from what I understand, total co2 is pretty much equivalent to bicarb levels, right? It seems like it also accounts for dissolved co2 in the serum as well as carbonic acid; but bicarb makes up about 95% of the co2 count in the body.

So if this is correct, normal total co2 levels would be about 22-30meq/L. And an elevated total co2 would mean metabolic alkalosis or compensation for respiratory acidosis. Correct?

If anyone wants to enlighten me, I'd love you long time ;)

Agreed with Brooke-I'm sure all of our stats were comparable, GaylordRN. They didn't seem like they'd interview people that wouldn't be considered. :)

Undergrad GPA 3.93 (Psych/Chem Major)

ABSN GPA 3.90

GRE 310/AWA 5

CCRN

3 years MICU

-Charge/Preceptor Experience

-Involved on unit/hospital councils

3 months CTICU at time of application

Hope that helps! Best of luck.

And IPD-I was the second interview in group A. :)

Hey Gaylord!

I'm sure all our stats were comparable in that we all got interviews! If you weren't worthy I'm sure they wouldn't waste their time!

I had a couple years of a previous undergrad with a horrid GPA that isn't included below (they totally grilled me about it, rightfully so), but my other stats were:

ADN GPA 3.93

BSN 4.0

Took Organic Chem last semester prior to applying with an A final grade

GRE 309/AW 4

CCRN

3.5 years in a 43 bed ICU with everything (IABP, VADs, CRRT, hearts, ECMO)

Charge Nurse

Preceptor Nurse

Member of my unit Schedule Council

AACN member which I participated in numerous volunteer activities with

Hey, Brooke, If both Duke and Wake accept you, which one would you go? = =in that case, I would know which school will leave a spot to waitlist people such as myself. Thanks. You have such a strong status, and I admire you!

I didn't even get offered an interview at Wake! So I'm not holding any spots there! I'm for sure going to Duke!!

I am totally shocked!! With your status, I would say that you could get in any CRNA program you want on this planet. Definitely, you deserve a seat at Duke or even Pitts, or any well-known program.

That just goes to show that you shouldn't allow any specific stats to hold you back! Every school is looking for something different and you just have to find the right match!! Keep at it!

wow! that's shocking to me as well. I don't understand why they wouldn't interview you. I know their average GRE score is higher than most at 312. But you have a rockin' GPA and you took O-chem with an A.

I hear their interview is grueling. Anyone interview there yet?

Hey everyone!

I also accepted my acceptance for fall 2018! Im so excited to meet everyone.

My stats were pretty comparable to the others who have posted:

3.75 GPA previous science undergrad

3.95 GPA ABSN

310 GRE/AW 4

CCRN

Preceptor/Charge

I was also pretty extracurricular heavy during my programs.

Good luck to everyone still making decisions/interviewing!

One of the nurses in my unit just accepted a position at Duke yesterday. Congratulations on everyone getting accepted. I hope I can say the same thing this time next year (not at Duke though).

well, i went there the second day after Duke interview. to be honest, Wake's interview was much more laid-back, no stressful situation at all. felt more welcoming than Duke.

hope everyone to get into a program eventually, happy thanksgiving!

I truly didn't find Duke's interview that stressful, other than my own produced internal stress! I made a joke at the beginning and made them all laugh, which kinda helped me relax, but really I thought I had bombed the interview!! Like I was sick about it after the fact and beating myself up. I thought the questions weren't that hard, but I didn't know them that well so I was mad at myself about that! But otherwise I felt that as a whole they were smiling at me for the most part, probably cause I was acting like a stressed out, spazzy fool hahaha
