Duke ABSN Spring 2015

Published

Anyone else applying to Duke's ABSN program for Spring 2015? As we're approaching the application deadline, I thought it would be great to get a conversation started. If anyone is currently in the program, I would love to hear your thoughts about the program as well.

I'm taking an online version. All I need to do is go see an advisor to sign up.

I don't know much about the PLUS loans, but my guess is that they're probably better than private loans.

Went this morning and enrolled in sociology. There were 8 spots left thankfully!

What do I wear to Duke Days?

Homelife, federal is the way to go if you can.

Ladeebugchick--Congrats on getting in! I've heard business casual(Ann Taylor Loft-like stuff, etc) is usually what people have worn in the past.

I am waitlisted and I'm wondering when the deadline to accept/pay deposit fee is for first-round admits? It would give me some idea of when Duke might start pulling from the waitlist. :)

vbee,

I believe I read August 10 somewhere. So a minimum of three weeks before we hear anything, but four is more realistic. Anyone know how long they typically wait after the deadline before they send out the next invites?

Can anyone attending Duke Days these next couple of days let those of us waitlisted know how it goes? I refuse to give up hope yet!

I've been wondering how Duke Days went for those who attended...anyone out there to give us the scoop?

I attended Duke Days last Friday the 25th. I hope to attend but anxiously awaiting my financial aid package because without a full ride in one way or the other I will not be able to attend. The tuition deposit is due August 10th.

Thanks, kep308. I'm sure it will all work out well for you! Duke seems to be pretty understanding and flexible on due dates.

I went yesterday. I have not received my financial aid package either, but I emailed them today to get an in person appointment. I'm hoping to coordinate the meeting with someone who knows the ins and outs of the MSN

Oops, posted accidentally. Anyway, I've decided the debt load is not worth it at all just to get the BSN, but it may well be worth it at the MSN or DNP level and they offer the program that will get me to my ultimate goal of becoming a neonatal NP. The real questions are how long will that take me, what kind of clinical experience is a must between the BSN and MSN, and will the salary and job prospects at the end of it all make this a worthwhile pursuit? I've never toured the facilities at other institutions, but I will say the labs at Duke were amazing! I couldn't wait to get in there and learn! My hope is that I'll be able to get a one on one meeting in financial aid, sit down and crunch a LOT of numbers, and make a decision before the $500 is due.
