I live in TN. I'm graduating in 3 weeks, but I'm scared about being denied because I had a misdemeanor DUI from 11 years ago. Anyone was in the same situation before?...The BON told me I have to write a letter and submit copies of the judgment and probation. I need advice!!!

I have not personally been in this situation and I'm also from a different state (Texas) but I do have a close friend that had a felony DWI and she is actually still on probation for it. For entrance into nursing school, the Texas BON has to give pre-approval. She was denied several times. However, she was persistent in doing exactly what the BON asked of her and she just recently got approval and will start school in the Fall. I know you are graduating and going to be sitting for the NCLEX soon and it is a bit of a different situation but I think if you comply and provide evidence that this is not typical behavior for you, then you will be just fine. Good luck and congratulations on graduating!

I had an old DUI conviction as well along with a couple of other charges. Mine were over 5 years old and didn't involve theft or assult which I believe are handled differently. I just got the paperwork from the courts, sent it in with my application along with a letter listing the offenses at the top and my mindset at the time and what I regret about it and how my outlook is today and what my life is like (for the positive). My application didn't take any longer than anyone elses and I have no restrictions. I was sick to my stomach thinking I may not get to take the NCLEX... everytime I googled it I read horror stories and saw nothing but get a lawyer posts from lawyers. Just breathe. Waiting is hard. Good luck!
