Drugs on NCLEX

Published

To those of you who have recently taken the exam, how were the med questions? I feel that I am familiar with the well-known drugs, but recently I have become rather nervous because I have heard recent testers say they have had 20-30 drugs on the exam. I am taking my exam next Wednesday and I am just curious to hear what others have to say. Also, I have been using the Hurst Review and it does not go too in depth with drugs. Thanks!

Become reasonably prepared. Do not obsess with trying to overlearn various meds because you have no idea what to expect on the exam. You could even get an exam where no specific meds are mentioned.

I took the exam on Friday and I had about 10 med questions. Honestly, I hadn't even heard of most of the meds I got, but I must have been able to guess correctly because my test stopped at 75 and I got the good pop up. I think the only thing you can do is be really prepared with the major meds we learned in school because there is no way to know them all. Good luck!

I didn't get too many med questions. Probably 8-10. And I only knew 2 of them for sure. The others... wow, no idea. You can't really study every single medication out there. It's kinda tough to study for those.

There are way too many meds that exist to know them all. You should concentrate on the major categories, knowing 1 or 2 drugs names in that category, know general indications, and contraindications, and any common endings, like -olol for beta blockers ect. And other than that just pay attention to any drug commercials you see.

Thank you for the replies!

I'm struggling with NCLEX. Using sauders 2009 book somebody gave me it has 1500 questions plus practice exam. Have been developing separate file for drugs as they come up in questions. Think this is good enough? Mosby drug book categorizes them in front of book along with overall effects of category eg antihypertensives action side ffects and some tyical drugs in the category. Thinking of trying Kaplan when I've done about 2/3's of Saunders book. Thanks. Hope all is well. [email protected]
