Good Morning fellow school nurses!
I am curious if any of you have been asked to assess students for being under the influence of marijuana or alcohol? If so, do you have specific training or credentials? Is this your school policy?

In MA there is this thing called SBIRT
SBIRT in Schools | Massachusetts Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (MASBIRT)
I do not do it the elementary level, but at MS and HS they do. In my district it is mandatory. I think they are trying to implement it as mandatory state wide. There should be some info in here to help you.

I work at a private school with some boarding students (not all) and was asked to drug test a boarding student. The test the school wanted me to use was expired, so I refused for that reason and because the consents for the boarding kids' treatment is handled by another department - my consents for them only cover OTC and their RX meds. So I referred the dorm staff to take him to an outpatient place and advise the parents. I was frankly pretty shocked they asked me to do that (especially while handing me an EXPIRED test - haha!)
