Dear allnurses forum,
I have this issue that has been bothering me. I was in my final semester in an LVN/LPN program in community college and I was dropped from the program half way through the semester. I am so depressed and so disappointed. I put in almost a year of my whole life into it and it is all a waste. Can anyone tell me of an online school that can help me complete the remainder of my curriculum and be approved/qualified to write NCLEX-LVN? I am looking for any alternative to starting another LPN program in another school from scratch. I heard of an online program called Excelsior College but I called them already and they do NOT have an LPN/LVN program. Indiana State University and University of Phoenix are also out of the question because one has to be at least a licensed LVN to register in their programs. I am so sad and discouraged and I don't know what to do. Please help me

If you don't mind me asking or if this isn't too personal, why were you dropped? I have never heard of any program doing that unless the student is below the GPA that they want and has failed more than one class or has received lots of C's. My school puts you on academic probation if your GPA falls under and you have the next semester to bring it up or else you are dropped. We are also only allowed to receive one C per semester and if we don't bring it up again, we are dropped. I am so sorry that this happened to you. What about joliet junior college? They have a nursing program. Not sure if it is online or not but maybe try calling them? I hope everything turns up for you!!

Are there any LPN programs in your area that take transfer students? Maybe some of your courses will transfer and then you wouldn't have to complete all of them again.
Or do you have the option to reenroll into the nursing program you were in?
Students at the school I attended were dropped as soon as they failed one course and they had to wait until the next semester and reapply for the class they failed before they could move forward. But at least that school did let some students reapply but it all depended on the reason they were dropped.
Some students were dropped due to the clinical instructor 's reasons (who knew what those reasons were, basically if anyone crossed the instructors path the wrong way then they would search for a reason to drop the student.)
GOOD LUCK!!!!

What most people who downplay LPN/LVN programs don't realize is the strict curriculum and guidelines most schools have. Our program specified and 80 or above on EVERY test in every course or you would be dropped. And you would start again-if you desired to return-at the beginning, which means reapplying to the program, re-testing, etc. And don't have any personal issues with family, yourself, etc. They were unsympathetic. That's why I get angry when it's even suggested that LVN's aren't "real " nurses.:angryfire That's BS!!
I'm sorry about your misfortune. If you failed due to bad grades you may have to just start over again. If you had a personal issue, try talking to someone at your school. They may make an exception...:loveya:Good luck!!
