drive a minivan for visits?

Hi,

Just starting this in this new field of home health care and I will be visiting in a urban setting-is a minivan for transportation totally asking for trouble? Parking etc?:lol2: ;) :monkeydance:

I've known a couple of hh nurses that drove minivans in urban areas. I don't know how practical that would be. Most of us don't think about this ahead of time, or are not in financial place to be able to change vehicles at will. I think most of us just end up driving what we have at the time we start hh. I've been doing hh for several yrs now and have drove one car to death. From now on, one bank acct just for car. Am going to big urban area, and will strongly consider looking into public transportation. That means I have to reconsider my usual night shift.

Thanks for the reply, I considered driving my husband's car (its smaller) I think I will just see how it goes and decide from there.

I would consider your miles per gallon over the size of the vehicle. I purchased a 1995 Ford Ranger truck with 32,000 miles from my neighbor for $2,500. My Dodge Durango gets 10-12 miles per gallon compared to 26-28 miles per gallon with the truck. Over the past 2 years the truck has more than paid for itself and I've saved over 15,000 miles on my Durango. If my Ranger dies I'll go for another reliable small used car. Hope another neighbor will be looking to sell! I also keep my ears and eyes open while doing visits at retirement centers. You never know when a patient decides to stop driving you could pick up a good used car.
