Drexel/Villanova Interviews

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi!! I'm new to this website and haven't seen any info on personal experience with Villanova or interviews. Has anyone interviewed @ these specific schools? What am I to expect clinically for the interview? The woman who called to set up my interview for Villanova (through Crozer hosp) told me to expect clinical questions. I'd really appreciate any help you could give!!! I'm 7p-7a tonite so give me some good stuff to keep me awake!!! Thanks!!

Congrats to all of you that gotten in. that's awesome!

I have my CRNA interview next month and I am so nervous... I am so not the typical applicant, still in the ICU (one day per week as a per diem) and work in another facility's ICU on occasion as an agency RN, work part-time in a PACU, and work agency in a very busy ER. Overall, I work 60+ hrs week in a critical care setting...I am so nervous that I will be looked down upon in my interview b/c of all of this. (Used to work full time in an ICU before I went agency). I have shadowed an CRNA and work with them in my PACU, so I know this is what I want to do. Just very nervous!

Do schools ever look at one's graduate grades... I have a MS in engineering and did this before going through an accelerated program. Did well in that, but still very nervous. Any advice?

hi Laurie:

I just registered for Bios, so I will taking Physiology and Biostats this Spring. I hope it is not too bad. I am try to take as many core courses as possible. People tell me that getting them out way is a great help once you start the program.

Saturno,

What section Biostats? Maybe we are in the same class!

Hi Laurie:

Specializes in Anesthesia, ICU, Oncology.

Hi Gaylord-rn!

Great name by the way!!!

I just graduated from 's Anesthesia program 3 weeks ago! Awaiting my boards. I am not sure where else you applied but Drexel was an excellent choice! The faculty is great and very approachable. Interview was very nerve wrecking for me. They gave us a few scenarios and asked what would you do. Remember you are applying to Anesthesia school, so airway is always a good answer! Just show them that you can critically think! That is what they want. Be humble, don't be a smart ass! If you have anything academically brilliant just make sure you bring that forward. Know your strengths and weaknesses and be ready to discuss them. They ask that question. Also when you talk about a weakness make sure it is not something like, and oh yeah, I am an alcoholic. Your weakness has to be something cute. Like "I still get choked up when I lose patient. It never gets easy." It is not particularly a bad thing but it is the kind of thing to say. Or you can say "I am very anal when it comes to things like my patient's IV lines and how they are labeled". That may be annoying to other nurses in your unit but ALL anesthetists are anal-retentive. So they'll love that.

Tell them how much this means to you and how you've been planning for this for a long time. You have your finances in order and you and if you have your family is committed to you succeeding at school. You talked to people about what it takes to make it through.

And really, after thinking about what I wrote you see if Anesthesia is right for you. I saw a lot of people find out they were not cut out for it after a year of schooling.

Good luck!

RNNJ

Thanks much RNNJ. Appreciate your feedback. Good to know the faculty is approachable. BTW, congrats on completing the program.

Can you PM tonight. Then you can even call me tonight after 9 PM. I interviewed at a few months ago.

Hi Gaylord:

I hope you get this information on time for your interview. First of all, relax and be yourself.... Every experience is different but I am going to tell you about mine.... I had a really nice experience at my 's interview.

There are three people at the interview ( program director, assistant director, and faculty professor). Everybody is very nice..... The actual interview lasts from 20-45 minutes. Be prepared for clinical questions which involve ACLS protocols, vasopressors, post surgical patients (blood loss, fluids), and hemodynamics. Personal questions such as strengths, major weakness, family support, why you want to be an CRNA, role of the CRNA, and your ICU experience (sickest patient and worst shift). Be confident but not overconfident. Sell yourself and show them why they should pick you over the rest of the applicants ( your experience, your attitude, your hard work...) If you can not answer the questions... be honest and do not try to bs them.

Again, relax and be yourself, pray... you will do great....

Hey Saturno,

Just realized you had responded to my post a while ago about what Biostats section.

Looks like we are in the same class! Im in section 900 as well.

Must say this problem set #2 is much harder than the first one and the midterm!
