Drexel Ace Fall 2014

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello everyone! JerseyGirl87 here. Is there anyone else out there planning on applying to the ACE Nursing program for Fall 2014?? I know it's still fairly early - applications aren't due for another six months or so, but I'm still hoping to find some fellow applicants (**fingers crossed**)

A little about me for those of you who may be curious, I'm 25, currently active duty military (deployed at the moment), and have had an interest in the ACE program for a few years. My ultimate goal os to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

Now that I've got less than a year and a half remaining on my military contract, it's time to start planning for what's next. I will be honest in saying that although I've had an interest in the program for quite some time, I am a procrastinator by nature and have not been very diligent in getting my pre-requisites completed. Part of it has been procrastination, and part of it has been a lack of time energy due to military and volunteer obligations, and other personal activities. So anyways, now I'm buckling down on getting my degree and other pre-requisites completed, with a goal of having them all completed by the application deadline - I know that this is not a requirement, but I'd like to give myself the most competitive edge possible in what seems every year to be such an enormous pool of applicants. With just over six moths to spare, it will be difficult (especially during a deployment), but I'm determined to get it done.

Here's a rundown of my progress, I encourage you to share yours as well...

Questions to you all to satisfy my curiosity...

What is your current professional field?

Why Drexel?

Do you have educational goals beyond your BSN?

Are you currently located in the Philadelphia area, or elsewhere?

If accepted to Drexel, how will you be financing your education?

Looking forward to your responses!

Anytime, cchun! :D I'm always here to help, if I can!

Hi guys, I just got accepted!:woot:

Congrats! :D Is where you want to go or is there another school you're waiting to hear from?

Thanks! I also applied to Jefferson's fact program and upenn's 2nd degree bsn only program. I have an interview with Jefferson next week, and still waiting on upenn. Honestly all three schools are great, but I'd probably say upenn is first, Jefferson is second, and third. Nonetheless I feel like Jefferson and Drexel are really back to back for me so I'd still like it if I went to Drexel. My husband also goes there for medical school, so it'd be cute to say we're both alumni haha

Hey everyone!! I just got my acceptance and found this discussion board :) Is anyone going to the February 8th information session? and are there any suggestions for housing? (I have a dog, but can probably leave her at home here during the week) Congratulations to those who have been accepted so far!

-Stacey

Hi Stacey,

I'd recommend off-campus housing. The school is very accessible through public transportation, so there's lots of areas close to the city that you can live in. For example, I live in the Fairmount area which is where the Art Museum is, located northwest of 's nursing campus. I believe their campus is the one across hahnemann hospital in the city, so it just depends on where you want to live and how much you want to spend. If you live in center city, it'll definitely cost more around 1100 and up. Fairmount area is safe and you can find studios or 1 bedrooms from around like 900-1200/month. University city might be a little cheaper around 800-1100/month. West philly (which is more west of university city) can go around 650-1000, but you have to research which areas are safer to live in. North philly is cheap too, but can be dangerous.

@cchun good to know all this! Coming from the suburbs of Connecticut and I'm so afraid of ending up somewhere sketchy haha. I'm been looking at craigslist just to get an idea of what's available. 1) How far is the art museum area from because it sounds nice and 2) Is East Falls a safe area? A lot of apts I'm seeing are around there.

I have a lot of friends who live in east falls and it's a pretty safe neighborhood. You'd have to go to the medical campus (in east falls) and then take the free shuttle bus to Drexel center city which is where Drexel nursing is at. So that's also an option and you get more bang for your buck there cuz it's a bit cheaper. A lot of Drexel medical students live there and also pcom students. Art museum area is about ten to fifteen minutes tops to get to the Drexel nursing on a bus.

Forgot to mention, east falls is a bit more residential, and it's close to manayunk which is a young hip city with lots of restaurants. If you live in east falls you can most likely have plenty of parking since it's residential. I live in the art museum area and I don't have a car. It's harder to find parking because it's basically the "city" just like the outer part. I'm thinking myself of moving to university city area. I think you can Google the safe areas in university city because I think there are areas that are shady you just have to ask around the locals.

@cchun cool. Thanks again! Can't wait to seriously start searching for an apt once I'm 100% sure I'm going to :-)

No prob @tolldoll, yea I'm pretty excited as well! Will be having my Jefferson phone interview tomorrow, wish me luck :)
