Hello everyone! JerseyGirl87 here. Is there anyone else out there planning on applying to the Drexel ACE Nursing program for Fall 2014?? I know it's still fairly early - applications aren't due for another six months or so, but I'm still hoping to find some fellow applicants (**fingers crossed**)
A little about me for those of you who may be curious, I'm 25, currently active duty military (deployed at the moment), and have had an interest in the ACE program for a few years. My ultimate goal os to become a Nurse Anesthetist.
Now that I've got less than a year and a half remaining on my military contract, it's time to start planning for what's next. I will be honest in saying that although I've had an interest in the program for quite some time, I am a procrastinator by nature and have not been very diligent in getting my pre-requisites completed. Part of it has been procrastination, and part of it has been a lack of time energy due to military and volunteer obligations, and other personal activities. So anyways, now I'm buckling down on getting my degree and other pre-requisites completed, with a goal of having them all completed by the application deadline - I know that this is not a requirement, but I'd like to give myself the most competitive edge possible in what seems every year to be such an enormous pool of applicants. With just over six moths to spare, it will be difficult (especially during a deployment), but I'm determined to get it done.
Here's a rundown of my progress, I encourage you to share yours as well...

-Human Nutrition (4) - To be completed July 1st-September 1st 2013
**Drexel's Human Nutrition Requirement is only 3 semester hours**
44 credits in 6 months. Quite a task. But I figure if I can't pull it off, then I don't have any business attempting to make it through the ACE program anyway...
Questions to you all to satisfy my curiosity...
What is your current professional field?
Why Drexel?
Do you have educational goals beyond your BSN?
Are you currently located in the Philadelphia area, or elsewhere?
If accepted to Drexel, how will you be financing your education?
Looking forward to your responses!

Hi Jerseygirl87,
I am also looking to get into Drexel 2014 fall program. I know it's early, but it's always good to be prepared! For the classes that you're taking through DSST/DANTES, do they give you grades or just credits? I think you're supposed to have graded courses with a "C" or higher. I asked Evan, one of the nursing application advisors and he told me all the courses had to be graded courses. If those classes are graded, then I'm definitely going to take those instead of taking the ones I'm taking right now. It would save so much time!
I'm also looking ahead as well because I am much like you. I went to UCLA for my undergrad and got a bachelor's degree in communications. Then I started working at a healthplan for 2 years and then I moved to Philadelphia to be with my husband, who is at Drexel med. Ever since I got out of college, I was thinking about doing nursing, but with a full time job, I could never take classes. It was so hard to apply for classes at community colleges because I would always get the last registration times. So I kept putting it off since I couldn't take classes. Then when I moved here, I started working as a medical technician and then I told myself it's time to really start taking those prerequisites and get it over with so I could actually apply to schools. So I'm taking them at community colleges online for now until I get to the science courses. I think they start reviewing applications around mid April, but I could be wrong. You could probably check out previous ACE program discussions on allnurses.com to see what other people say. If I find out anything, I'll let you know!
Current profession? Full Time Medical Technician
Why Drexel? The program is an 11-month program, it works out well for my schedule and gets me that much closer to being a nurse without having to go to school for longer. The school is nearby and my husband goes there. It'd be nice to both be alumni.
Educational goals? I might want to pursue nurse practitioner, but honestly I think I'd be satisfied being a nurse. I don't need to be in a leadership position and I don't need to be making a lot of money. I also think I want to work for at least 3-4 years before pursuing anything higher.
Located in Philly area? Yup!
How will I finance? I saved up some money while working that could hopefully finance half of the tuition. I'd have to get loans for the other half and for living expenses.
What about you?

Hello!!!
I just found out last week that I was accepted to the Drexel ACE program, spring 2014. i know it is pretty far away, but i work full time and am finishing up some last pre reqs. I was/am enrolled to start nursing at La Salle this fall, but Drexel required a few more pre reqs, so I pushed my start date back to the spring in order to give me enough time to finish up Drexel's extra requirements. Once I finished La Salle's pre reqs, Drexel's couple extra ones didn't seem as daunting.
I graduated from Temple University with a psychology degree (so I didn't need many sciences!) and shortly after i as searching for a great accelerated program, and discovered La Salle's, which is part time, 2 years, for people with jobs. But after working full time and attending La Salle full time, for the pre reqs, i decided i would much rather focus on school, and school alone, so I just recently applied to Drexel about two months ago!
In my acceptance letter to Drexel, they said within two weeks I would be receiving a course evaluation, and a list of remaining courses I need to take (I think I may only need two more, but possibly three. im waiting until I sign up for any more classes.)
I decided late in my Temple career that while I loved psychology, I wanted something more hands on a did some research, and discovered the career of psych nursing. I know I could do this with a BSN alone, but since i already have a bachelor's in psychology, what can I do!? I have read that some psych nurses do have a background in psychology, and some nurses have taken the same course I have, a bachelor's in psychology and both nursing, which makes me feel like I didn't waste my whole first degree, which i felt for a while!!!
What is your current professional field? I work in the special education field, working at a school for children with special needs.
Why Drexel? I have lived in Philly for about 6 years, I love it. Drexel is close, and the program is very, very short. Im ready to start my career.
Do you have educational goals beyond your BSN? Not as of yet, maybe in the future, I would EVENTUALLY like to work as a psych nurse practitioner, but who knows how I will feel about that!
Are you currently located in the Philadelphia area, or elsewhere? YUP!
If accepted to Drexel, how will you be financing your education? It is very expensive, I will hopefully see what type of loans I can get, and will take out private loans to cover the the rest, and to cover living costs.

Hi all! I'm also hoping to get in for that semester. I graduated in 2011 with a bachelor of science in communications. Admittedly my GPA was weak but I'm hoping to give it a little boost with all these prereqs I have to take. I already to ethics, development psych and am now taking microbio. I have A&P I and II, chem, nutrition, and computer applications left.
I currently work for an insurance company as a disability claim specialist so I have a lot of work with medical records and telephonic claim contact but no direct patient contact, which I want!
Drexel is one of 10 (yes,10!) programs I'm applying to throughout the east coast. I live in CT and I'm ready for a change! I think it looks like a great school and I know people that have gone here and loved it.
I aspire to become a nurse practitioner, sooner rather than later. I have friends in the Philly area and it seems like a great city. And in terms of finance- loans, financial aid, scholarships are all I can hope for! =)
Hi Tua! I replied to you in another forum for the fall 2013, but I guess this forum is more fitting!
So you said that you have to complete all your classes by Jan 15? I applied a little too early, but I'm hoping they will accept me and then I can try to defer since I don't think I can finish by Jan 15, unless I quit my work and go to school full time for fall and winter qtr. I emailed one of the advisers and they said they would most likely look at my application within the next 7-10 days!
Right now I only have 4 classes complete(Intro to Stats, English Reading, English Comp, Intro to Psych).
I am going to be done with 4 classes this semester, which ends may 10 (Dev. Pysch, Intro to Soc, Intro to Nutrition, Computer Fundamentals). I'm hoping the schools send out my transcript asap.
Then here's my plan for the rest of the year
Summer- Bioethics
Fall- Anatomy & Physiology I
Winter - Anatomy & Physiology II
Spring - Chemistry and Microbiology
If they accept me, I'd have to do full time for Fall and Winter if they have to have classes by Jan 15.
My UCLA gpa was 3.7 in communications
My Prerequisite gpa so far is 3.9, but I haven't taken the core science classes yet, so we'll see how I do!
Congratulations on getting in and if you find out any more information please do share =)
Congratulations on getting in and if you find out any more information please do share =) And to TolDoll, I hope you get in and I'm rooting for the both of us!

Hi all!!!
I too am interested in starting at Drexel for their ACE program in Fall of 2014!!! I just submitted my application last night, still somewhat early in my opinion but nothing's really going to change within the next couple of months so I figured why not.
I am still in the process of finishing up my Bachelor's degree (BS in Psych), which will not be completed until May of 2014, but my pre-reqs will be completed by this December. I was banking on my GPA for my last 60 credit hours to be the factor that got me in but I just couldn't wait any longer to apply. My overall GPA is admittedly very low right now (i was not a good student for the first 3 years of my college career, had to learn the hard way) only 3.04 but by the time I graduate, I should be around 3.3, so if I don't get in this time around then I will be reapplying! Does anyone know if there is a limit to how many times you can apply per year?
Also I do not know if anyone has checked recently BUT the pre-reqs have changed! They got rid of a handful of previous requirements! So the new ones are as follows:
English: 3 semester credits.
Chemistry with lab: 4 semester credits.
Developmental psychology: 3 semester credits.
Anatomy with lab*: 4 semester credits.
Physiology with lab*: 4 semester credits.
Microbiology with lab*: 4 semester credits.
Human nutrition: 3 semester credits.
Statistics: 3 semester credits.
I am applying to Drexel because of the short program length and the ease of application. I also wanted a change of scenery as I currently live in Michigan! Drexel is only two hours away from my family in NY so I love that too!
I am currently working as a nursing assistant at a hospital right now, as I have been for almost 4 years now, not that it is relevant in terms of applying since they don't even ask you that kind of stuff lol.
I plan on taking out loans to finance my nursing education wherever I end up going, and I probably will try working once a week at a part time job. I won't be able to quit working completely while I am in school, too many bills to pay still -___-
Well good luck to everyone! We still have a long wait ahead of us since apps aren't even due until October but I'm still excited nonetheless!!

How do I apply here? I'm in the cycle for PA school, but interested in this Drexel program - I go to the website and they say the app fee is waived if done online, I go to the undergraduate app, filled out the first page and clicked on majors and couldn't find the ACE nursing option. How do I go about applying for this? Also, this isn't online right and do we just send transcripts/lors?
Also is there Any way to notify them of job exp or letters of recs?
Nvm I found out how to apply.
Hey everyone, I'm from Texas and I'm applying here out of whim to see how it goes. I'm also in the app cycle for PA school, but I don't see becoming a nurse as a deterrent since my main goal would be to open up my own HHA. Also, the nursing lobby is 10x stronger and have more autonomy in terms of legislative power compared to other fields.
Moreover, I graduated from the University of Texas System with roughly a 3.6 cGPA and 3.4 sGPA - Neuro degree - male. I have plenty of HCE experience - 1000+ hrs of HHA/CNA exp, hospital/shelter volunteer, TA/Research Assistant.
@ first my degree track was pre-med so I have most of the pre-reqs and even took courses such as ochem 1/2 which was a beating to my GPA. Nonetheless, i believe the only classes I have left is micro and nutrition which I'm taking this semester starting next week. I plan on sending my transcripts tomorrow which hopefully will arrive in a week or so.
Does anyone know if Drexel is rollings admissions?
Also, when I submitted I didn't receive any log-in info in order to check the app status
Hi torshi!
I think it is rolling admissions. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Also I didn't get a login to check app status until about a week after I applied.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Thanks for the update :) Also, another quick question. I've been lurking on previous ACE facebook class profiles and it seems most people accepted or attending are from up northeast which is fine, but is there like a northeastern preference?? I'm from down south (Texas) and I'm not sure if they are biased against Out of State applicants. I've seen like one person from california so it seems possible. Most come from neighbor states such as New York, Delaware, New Jersey etc.
