it's only risky if you can't get by financially during the time you are going to school. You also have to deal with the childcare issue of course. Other than that what is risky?? If you really want to go for it and your a decent student you'll be fine. There will always be a need for nurses, so there is NO RISK of lack of employment opportunities. Good Luck
I did many of my pre-req's online. I would recommend doing pre-req's you feel comfortable with that way. Many are available at your local community college, and I know that a consortium of community colleges here in kansas, http://www.edukan.edu , have made MANY pre-req's available and some people here on allnurses.com have used this site to get some of their pre-req's out of the way. Doing it online can take more time than a traditional class, but at least you don't have to go to class at a certain time. Good luck!!

Hello, I am 27, with a B.S. in Business, thinking of changing careers to nursing. I have started to shadow at a local hospital in Peds, and Out Patient surgery. Needless to say I have loved every minute of it. Since I work full time, it would take me almost two years to do my pre-reqs. I am considering quiting my work in order to take my pre-reqs and finish sooner then originally planned. I am married and just had a baby, so I would have to take out loans for school and living expenses for the next year or two. Is this a risky proposition?
