Dear nurses or student nurses,

It has been 1 year since I have started nursing school, I was very scared in the beginning more so of the unknown and all of the rumors that circulate about nursing school. I just want to ask is it normal to still feel scared? I am not as scared as in the beginning but I still get scared when I am starting a new rotation and so forth. I feel like I still dont know as much as I should for being 1 year in....this scares me but my professor said that we arent all going to get every single experience in school. ... what happens when I graduate? What if I feel like this? I dont feel confident at all and it scares me so much.....

I've been a nurse for nine years. I still do not know everything about nursing, and likely never will. If I don't know something, I'll ask someone who knows.

Confidence comes with time and experience. Even though I've been a nurse almost a decade, I still do not know how to perform many procedural skills. Again, if you do not know something when you are a licensed nurse, just ask.

Good luck to you!

Many people are scared in nursing school and as new nurses (they just put on a brave face). Actually most are scared/nervous. And the few that aren't scared, can be very scary to their coworkers because they may not be as cautious and thoughtful about their nursing actions. Time and experiences will help you become more confident.
