Double Major in Healthcare Management

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm still waiting to hear about my acceptance to Clayton State University's nursing program, wish me luck! In the meantime though, I am considering the possibility of double majoring in healthcare management. It looks like if I worked my buff off I could finish both degrees at the same time, or at least shortly after I finish my BSN. I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this and can give me some insight to how the classes are, and if it is worth it to get the extra degree. Will it give me a significant leg up in my career? Also, what kind of positions and promotions would be available to me with this degree?

I wanted to do the same if I don't get accepted for this fall! I will just take the pre-req's for HCM this fall.

I have changed my mind! If I don't get accepted for the fall (God I pray I do)...I will just get some of the upper division free elections out the way so I will only have 12 hours per semester once I start the program. The less stress the better. Not to mention, I feel there is no reason to get a HCM dual diploma. You won't get paid extra...you will just have to choose between to two eventually; therefore, I will just choose nursing now.

That's a good idea. I was actually thinking of doing that too. I was wondering if it was worth it to do the HCM degree, I thought maybe it would help me get into a managerial nursing role sooner or something, but I don't really know. They would probably want an NP over a HCM bachelors degree though. So, maybe it wouldn't do any good.

No..I don't think it would...might as well do the two years to become a NP. I want to become a CNM. So I will be getting my masters as well.
