Order: Solu-Cortef 200 mg I.V.. How many Ml would you give per dose?

There is a pic of the drug label that says: Solu-Cortef

hydrocortisone sodium succinate for injection, USP

250 mg

I'm thinking the answer is 0.8 mL but am not sure if that is right or not?

Is it a 2mL vial?

I just looked at it again, and it does say something at the top really small about a 2 mL vial.

so now I'm thinking the answer would be 1.6 mL?

it took me a while to learn dosage calculation math.

one thing that really helped me:

1st determine what my answer needs to be in. (tabs, ml, gtt/min, ml/hr etc.)

then think about what this means:

if being asked for how many mls. to give then think; a liquid medication; in a dosage cup; injection or iv push.

if ml/hr it's an iv medicine and you have to set the iv pump.

if gtt/min it's an iv drip.

i begin all my math with what my answer needs to be in.

in this case how many mls per dose.

in order to determine how many mls per dose; there needs to be some mls, given, in the drug dosage problem.

that is why another poster asked if it was a 2ml syringe.

looking for: ml/dose, so start with ml on top:

_ml__ - _2 ml__ x 200 mg = 400 = _1.6_ml__

dose[color=white].....250 mg[color=white]....[color=white]..1 dose[color=white].....250[color=white]...........dose

hope that helps
