Don't want to give up nursing! Nurse in HPMP with reprimands on license

Published

I'm a nurse in the Fredericksburg area who had a problem with addiction and am currently 3 years into the HPMP program. Due to my addiction, I was reprimanded several times due to poor performance. No patients were injured it was for not drawing blood, med errors. I've gotten some interviews and not one offer. I've tried dialysis, long term care, hospitals and some doctors offices. I am a good nurse that has learned from my mistakes. I need advice and direction on what to do next. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Have you tried Psych facilities? They are generally a bit more forgiving of past mistakes especially if you are now sober and working a program of recovery. I went into psych while in monitoring and have now been doing it for 17 years. I love it.

Thanks for the quick reply. The one psych facility here in town is owned by the hospital that I got fired from when I was in active addiction. I feel like I when employers see the reprimands they throw my application away. I will keep trying. What state are you in. I'm in Virginia
