I'm applying to my community college's LPN program in the fall, and its wracking my brain. I want to be an RN, but I know the RN program here is nearly impossible to get into since they only admit about 40 people a year. The LPN class is a little bigger and they run it twice a semester.
What drives me nuts is, I keep hearing different things from different people. Theres an entrance test you take to get in and the highest scores make it. But some nurses I know who went through it tell me its not all on the test score, and it takes at least two years to get in. Others tell me if I have my math and science prereqs done (which I do) that it'll be easy to get into. I've never done something where I constantly hear something different from every person I talk to.
The only thing consistent is that everyone has said not to beleive anything the school tells you. I know theres nothing anyone can do, I just wanted to vent and maybe get some advice. Thanks.

The only way you will ever know is to try for yourself. Before I got into my school, I heard almost all the same stories you mentioned. Do the foot work and you will be fine. Once I quit listening to the horror stories and put my all into my goal, it worked out perfectly. Good luck!
Thanks dphrn...thats part of the reason I quit my job in law enforcement and became a CNA. I want to fully immerse myself into the healthcare field and learn as much as I can before school starts. I feel that will only help me in the long run. I fully plan on busting my butt in school and doing the best that I can on this test. I just dont' know what I'll do this fall if I don't get in.
Does anyone else have an opinion?

People do drop off of the list-I got moved up and started much sooner then I had originally planned. If you have to wait 2 yrs that is 2 more yrs of experience as a cna for you---move around a little and experience some different types of nursing while you wait-home care, long term care, acute care.....Watch the nurses you are working with and learn from them....Good luck..

Tim,
I still would recommend getting your EMT certification while you are waiting because of your background, as I told you before. It will also improve your chances for getting into the RN program with your previuos training.
Good luck with your training............................ :balloons:
