There is a self-paced LPN program here that requires you to take the NET to get on the waiting list. Right now it is taking about 9 months to get in from the time you pass the NET. I scheduled it for this Tuesday a couple of months ago. That would make a start date of March 2010 most likely. Since it is self paced, you can get done in as little as 3 months (I know someone personally that has done this) if you have certain prereq's done (which I do). I can then do a LPN-BSN program.
I also have the opportunity to get into a BSN program from an expensive private school which lets everyone in that has all their prereq's completed. All that they require is that you have all your prereq's done with a 3.0 and if you don't then they will consider the last 30 credits you completed if they were atleast B's. I met with the advisor and we made a plan that can get me in with a start date of August 2010. They do not have a LPN-BSN program. I would need to focus soley on doing my prereq's from now until then, including all intersessions.
Here's the issue. I have 6 F's on my transcript from a couple of years ago and I am worried that if I take the LPN-BSN route, I will have problems with acceptance into schools, although I can retake the classes and show an upward trend by taking other prereq's and making great grades. I do have mostly B's and a couple of A's. I am smart, it's just that I was not disciplined due to several things going on in my life at the time.
So, what would you do?

You have to do what fits in well with your life. Do you need to be working while doing LPN-BSN? I would imagine that would be extremely difficult. Me, personally? I would go with the self paced LPN course first...so I could be working as well. Then I would do the crossover to BSN when I am able to devote all my time to doing so. But again, you know what your life pace is. You have to be really disciplined to work and go to school simultaneously. I don't think you will have trouble getting into school. I had an F in anatomy and physiology (of all things!) and I still got into school without much of a hassle. I retook that class and got a B in it...so it can be done.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do!

6 F's is a lot. If you have a compelling reason that explains your grades, I would definitely look into seeking "academic amnesty" at whatever school you decide to go with. There is an application procedure involved and then usually a committee decides whether or not amnesty will be granted (it essentially wipes extremely poor performance from your transcript). I am in nursing education and am a member of an admissions committee. A transcript with that many F's CAN hurt your chances for acceptance. Retakes can help, but a pattern of retakes (especially in science classes) is usually noticed.

SageFemme88... what program is the one one your saying has a self paced LPN...Sound interesting..please if anyone knows please Share.....
Thanks for the replies. I talked with my DH, I think I am going to go with the LPN program. If an LPN-BSN program doesn't accept me, I will do the private school's traditional BSN program. It will take me longer, but like Cherybaby said, I can work while going to school. My DH is already on the waiting list and should be in in September. We work double weekends so working while in school is not an issue for us. We have Monday-Friday off!

If you are self-disciplined the LPN route sound like a good way to go in that you can complete your studies in as little as 3 months. Can I ask you the name of the program and where its located? Blessings O!
