Done with the HESI A2! Any questions?!

I took the HESI A2 exam today and passed all of them with A's and B's. The sections I had to take were Math, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and a Critical Thinking section. If anyone has ANY questions regarding my experience, please feel free to ask me! I will be thrilled to help anyone out! :)

What was the math and vocab like?

Math- I made a 90 on this section. There were a lot of proportions that you had to solve. For example, X/63=24/72 and you solve for X. A few questions were Metric conversions. Most of the math questions were multiple choice, but some you had to fill in your own answer (which I hated!). A lot of the questions were in a word problem format. Make sure you definitely know conversions and how to do proportions. If you study the HESI Admissions Assessment Study Guide Version 3, you should do just fine.

Vocabulary- It was the hardest for me. I made an 80 on this section. There were many random words that were thrown in there!! Some words were used in a sentence, and some were just asked flat out. For example, "What does anterior mean?". I obviously liked the ones used in a sentence more. I would suggest studying on Quizlet.com. It helped some for me. Out of all the questions, probably only like 15 were from the HESI study guide. Which was a little disappointing, but oh well. There was honestly no good way to study for that part, unfortunately!

I wish you the BEST of luck!! Try not to be nervous, because I was and it made things worse! My best advice is go in there super duper confident. Because more than likely you'll do better than you expect. :)

Hello Ty for sharing ,I am not a fan of algebra, or math but proportion is can do I think although I hate word problems lol ,can you share the critical thinking part how was it ? I take my exam on the 27 th so please help btw how did you set up the problems for the proportion part in the word problem ?

I am 43 and it has been awhile since I have done math my GPA is good but from I see they hold everything above your head. If you don't pass you do not get in ,and if you don't pass you will get kicked out that is so stressful...

Hello ty for the feedback, I was wondering about the critical thinking part how was it . Btw congratulations on passing .I bet you are so happy .I take mine on the 27th and I am nervous. how did you set up the word problems for the proportion I am not too bad on proportions so it should be like multiplying and dividing .. Please keep in touch I am having some anxiety. lol

Well the proportions were questions on their own. All it says it "Solve the proportion", or something of that nature. And then it gives you a proportion. They are really easy. All you have to do is cross multiply and divide. I honestly can't really help you with the word problems because I'm pretty sure those are the ones I got wrong! I have always been bad at them! :( Haha.

For the critical thinking.... Well, first of all, it has a lot to do with common sense. It's kind of silly that I was tested over it because I haven't taken any nursing classes yet, obviously. And all of the scenarios they give you are about nursing. On every question, they give you a little info on the patient and the actual scenario that you have to read. And then it asks you what you (as a nurse) should do.

To be a good critical thinker you have to know about prioritization. You need to know what the most important step you do first. For example,... "If there was a screaming, 80 year old women that was hallucinating, what would you need to do first to handle the situation?" And then it gives you 4 answer choices that are ALL correct, but you must choose the BEST answer. So it's a little tough if you don't know much about nursing. I got a 780 out of 1,000. So I guess that's not too bad for someone who has never had a nursing course.

Whatever area's of math you are weak in, you just need to brush up on. I suggest checking out YouTube videos that explain math concepts, and also checking out Math.com, which is a great supplement for brushing up on math skills. From everyone I've talked to that has taken the HESI, it covers extremely basic math, so I wouldn't be overly concerned. Just brush up on your basic math skills, and study the HESI Exam Review guide by Evolve.

I don't know about the odd thing... sorry. and about reducing fractions, try googling it...I'm sure you'll be able to find a website to help you... it's easy once you get the hang of it.

I will second this opinion! The HESI study guide was VERY helpful! I made an 87% overall with an 840 on Critical thinking. The study guide was most helpful for me in the math portion.

Thanks x factor I found the math.com on this forum I guess ill work on it all today what about the vocab and grammar any helpful sites for them? I did youtube the reducing fractions and felt dumb after lol thanks much guys!
