Domestic violence expunged. Possible to be a LPN?

10/20/99 I gave birth to my daughter. 10/30/99 I was arrested for domestic violence against my husband.

This occurred in California.

I now live in Colorado.

I went through the process of having my record expunged, because I wanted to attend school.

But.

I have been told different things by a few individuals on being licensed.

Some say just be honest about the circumstances. All say you have to divulge the fact you were arrested.

But, no one says if I'll be able to take the test and be licensed.

The school I want to attend will be starting soon.

HELP!

Nobody here can answer if you can get licensed. Even someone with a similar situation. The only way to get an answer is to contact your state BON. Even with expungement, you still have to disclose th incident to the board. They will see it on a federal level background check. However, the expungement will work in your favor. They will send you a questionnaire about the incident and ask for all supporting documentation and case information. Then they will decide if you can practice as a nurse.

What at you should do is contact the BON anonymously and explain the situation. They can't give you a for sure answer, but they can let you know if you even have a chance at licensure.

Generally I would expect that a US BON/BRN would have similar access to your background as a Law Enforcement Department would have. In other words, chances are good that they can "see" your entire record whether or not it's been "expunged." It's very rare that a record is truly erased...
