Can anyone who has taken or is taking biology I shed some light on how they excelled in this course? Preferably study tips and or resources you have used to progress successfully in this class. I understand biology is the first stepping stone to the journey of nursing, so I want to do the best I can. Thank you!

I have never taken an intro to bio, however, I have taken some other sciences (like chemistry, both general and orgo) and I am taking A&P I right now. The best advice I can give to be successful in a bio course is to develop one's higher order thinking skills. What I mean is, yes, a lot in bio is memorization, but ultimately one needs to understand the concepts and processes as well as how A is linked to B, which in turn is linked to C. With that said, use a lot of pictures, diagrams and tables. Try to understand what they convey. Make your own diagrams, flow charts or concept maps in a way more understandable to you. When you study for exams (you may have to do so from the textbook, slides or study guides/reviews) read through the material bit by bit and then try to retell in your own words what you understood. You may do so with a friend or a partner from the class. If you are able to retell/teach the material in your own words, you are most likely understanding the material. So far all of what I have suggested have worked for me. I hope it helps!
Thank you!

I always love to rewrite my notes. If I take notes during class, I will rewrite them a couple days later. When I rewrite them I highlight key concepts and important things and also make them look pretty in general since my handwriting can get bad during lectures. If I was provided powerpoints, I would go through them and turn them into a note format. Going through the notes a second time thoroughly really helped me clarify topics, let me know what I understand, and also pointed out things I needed to talk to the professor about. I also used a white board to draw different topics out like the calvin cycle. It helped going through the process but you could also just use a pen and paper to do this. If I was studying at home I would search on youtube the concepts I didn't understand to try to get a better grasp on them. Good luck!
