Would anyone dare to guess if nursing school is better today than it was say 5, 10 yrs ago? Are nurses learning more up to date techniques, better ways of doing their jobs etc.?

My wife graduated 5 years after me, and I would say things aren't better or worse. All nursing texts are behind the times. Meds change faster than publishers can update etc. But the basics are the same.

This is a hard question to answer since I'm only a student and I'm not really an educator. I don't know I guess I'll find out when I go into the real world.

The basics are the same. I think like in every other career, is up to you to update your knowledge. You are never going to stop learning. You have to find your own way to do your job applying de rules that you learned. But if you are not sure about if this profession is for you, think better before spend more time on it. You have to love it, and then the things that look difficult or impossible will become possible and easy....Good luck.

I'll tell you one thing that for SURE has made (at least one aspect of) nursing school easier today than it was 25 years ago when I graduated .........computers and word processing programs!!
Gone are the days of type-writers, carbon paper, and white out (they only allowed us 5 white-out errors per page)......Thank God!!

Evidence-based practice is sure a lot easier to swallow than all those nursing theory books! Was very thankful when returning to school after 16 years and going from typewriter to word processors, from hours at the library card catalog to OvidSP!!
