Does Canada accept 2nd Courser RNs from the Philippines?

World Registration

Hello everyone! I was wondering if Canada accepts 2nd courser nurses from PH? I graduated BSN last March 2009. After taking the local NLE last November 2009 I passed and got the result by February 2010 and started working last July 2010 in a tertiary government hospital. My first course was B.S. in Biology. Currently I am waiting for a call from my application in the Middle East and was planning to transfer to Canada after a few contracts there.

I started this thread because of my unfortunate application for registration in the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ). They do not accept second coursers with shortened BSN program. I only finished it in about 2 years and 9 months. My general education subjects were credited so is the case. Is Canada open to nurses like me? What are their requirements and which Board do I apply to? Anyone here with a similar case? Please enlighten me.

You would have to apply to the college of nurses( our licensing bodies are called colleges, not boards) and see if you meet their requirements for licensure. If you met the requirements you would be allowed to write the CRNE.The stumbling block could be getting a work visa.Nursing is longer on the Federal Skilled Worker list. You would have to go the Temporary Work Permit route and that requires finding an employer first.

What does "planning to transfer to Canada" mean? It's a change of lifestyle and job not a transfer between employers.

Thanks! Do you know the website of this College of Nurses? :)

Hello fiona59. Yes partly that's what I meant. My plan is to work first in the Middle East as a nurse and save money for a few years then migrate to Canada. I would still work as nurse in Canada that is why I am asking if it is possible for me to practice my profession there knowing that I only have a shortened BSN program. I posted this thread hoping anybody here have similar experiences and would share how to go about.

Probably the only place that could tell you for sure would be the college of nurses in the province in which you want to work. The experiences of one person may be different than that of another.
