I'm curious if anyone works in a facility that has an RN initiated enteral nutrition protocol that helps to get patients fed sooner on in their admission? Something like a flow-chart or maybe a checklist to approach the intensivists with to say the patient meets all criteria to start feeding?
I know there have been a few critical care nurse articles on this topic (and bundles), as well as the ASPEN guidelines that were release in 2016. Our unit is attempting to put something together but I wanted to see if anyone already had something that works relatively well and would be willing to share their protocol ideas. Thanks in advance.

Hmm - we don't have this, but we do have an RN-initiated supplement protocol...like if a patient is malnourished, we can enter orders for different supplements per a pre-approved protocol. Let me know if you want to see what it looks like!

I'll be following this thread along as well, would definitely be interested in both of those topics. Sometimes we have patients going along 7-10 days with D5W, not sure how it falls through the cracks, but it just does.
