I have a BS in Healthcare Admin already and I'm looking into the accelerated 2nd bachelor's in nursing at Sac State and a private college, Samuel Merritt. Does anyone have any feedback on these programs or have been through either one of them? What's the difference between attending a public school or private school? Thanks for any help!

do a search on Samuel Merritt on allnurses. There are plenty of threads that discuss this.
I am in the SF ABSN cohort and I have had a great experience. In a nutshell: My experiences with clinical instructors have been awesome, but some (as we've heard from other students) have been not so great. Theory instructors have been great for the most part, some are more tough than others.
Private versus public: To me, it was worth the $$ b/c I don't have the time to be waiting around during summers. If you have the time and patience to wait and get into a public school, I would do that. It all depends how fast you want to be done.
I don't really know how a public school, state or city, works

I have applied to 3 public schools not 2nd degree and didn't get in.. For Sacramento I had a 3.7 science gpa and I was number 97 on the alt list. I had points for volunteering but no points for language or paid experience. The 2nd degree stats were even higher so I didn't try.. Been turned down at 3 public schools.. They are very hard to get into. Samuel Merritt's web site has the stats .They are lower... Rather scary since the school has an excellent rep.. I think so many people try the public because of the cost but it is sooo hard to get into.. The associate programs have years waiting lists or lottery..tried that route too.. But be positive.. many do get into public schools..I am just not one of them so am applying to private one year programs.. I need to get in and out fast.. :wink2:
