Hi Suesquatch,

I've been a member of the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) since 2000.

Benefits include the ability to networking with practicing and experienced Informatics Nurses. ANIA also has an annual education conference - in recent years held in collaboration with CARING. You do not have to be a member of ANIA to access the NI job postings section of their website. There is a members only section that is more for networking and information sharing.

You will find that the majority of NI and HIT professionals belong to more than one member association depending on their current role, area of practice with in HIT and or their specialty. If you were a CIO or VP you might below to HIMSS and CHIME (the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives). Or if your role is that of Project Manager you might belong to the professional association for project managers -PMI. I'm currently a member of ANIA, CARING, AMIA, HIMSS and HIMSS NI Task Force. Some associations are more academic (AMIA) where others (HIMSS) focus more on professional advancement thru certification, continuing education, lobbying and industry standards development, etc.

Just wanted to mention that there is a good chance that ANIA and CARING are going to merge in 2009. Not that that should impact your decision, just an FYI.
