Hi everyone!
Anyone here that work as a school nurse on a military post? I am interested in applying. I live in NC. I already work as school nurse in one of our counties. Any information would be most appreciated!!
If you do work as one, do you enjoy it?
They are pretty lengthy.
We have to update them consistently. It is to provide data to the state.
It keeps track of numbers of kids being seen...whether they are sent home, stay at school, or go out via EMS. Keeps track of chronic illnesses and what we have done for those students. Any plans we have made etc. Procedures we perform. I have diabetics so I mark how often I give insulin via pump etc. Any health counseling for students or staff. Also any teaching we provide for staff, students, or families. Hearing vision, and dental screening numbers and referral numbers. Case management. There is quite a bit...that is just some of the things we track. Covid is now in the mix as well.
It is a link we download that has different spreadsheets to collect all the data. We turn it in from each school and then our Lead Nurse puts it all together to give to the state. It helps in our funding I believe.
Thanks JustJai for all the information! I'm also interested in applying for a DoDEA SN position. What charting/documentation program do you all use, is it standardized across DoDEA? Also, do you have to have a nurse license for the state you will be working in or can you maintain your current state license? Do you have the ability to collaborate with other DoDEA school nurses? Is attending school nurse conferences and educational opportunities supported?

I work outside of the US. If someone is lucky enough to be offered an OCONUS position (outside of continental US), no matter where it is located, they should grab it. Great pay, great benefits, and we don't have the serious physical health conditions that some nurses have in stateside schools. Every student has at least one parent employed with a military related job. Adequate food and housing is not a concern we have to address.
I read so many comments here about parents not returning phone calls, not following up, or unable to follow up, on needed medication or doctor's appointments. I don't have to pull teeth to get immunizations. If I can't reach a parent in an emergency we will contact their military chain of command. If the immunizations aren't brought up to date in the specified time the student cannot return to school until the updated documentation is received. No parent would dare send a COVID positive student to school or send their children to school if a member of the household is in quarantine due to either a family member being positive or in close contact with someone else who is positive. There are very strict rules in place during this pandemic.
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM. Now if only the US would invade New Zealand..........

Thank you all for the information!
I found an email address on the DoDEA website and someone finally responded. ( I had tried the emails that were provided through the job application but no response). The recruiter fixed the problem and I am now able to complete my application.
It does look like you have to have a BSN. I will graduate in June. It looks like I can still be considered because I will be done prior to the next school year. I live in NC and think it would be a great opportunity. We will see.
I do have another question...Do you all do mid year and end of year reports like we have to do in county schools?
Again, thank you so much!
