The one in McAllen? If so, you need to do some research on the Rio Grande Valley. If you're not from the RGV, you will find it unlike anywhere you've ever lived. You should think long and hard before you move here.

At most of the hospitals in the Valley, the working conditions are brutal, and the staffs of most of the hospitals are made up of Filipino immigrants who came here for the large bonuses the hospitals used to give out. Upwards of $50000 in the past. Why? Because the patient/nurse ratios go as high as 8 or 9 to one on a regular basis. There is no leadership. There is no professionalism. You'll get sick of hearing "It's the valley wayyyyyyyyyy" every time someone half-asses a procedure.

Doctor's hospital is fairly new, and it's been said that they're one of the better hospitals in the area. That's not saying much, though. They have recently built a lot of new facilities on their campus, and it's beautiful. Haven't been there, though, so I can't speak to the working conditions.

My wife and I are running out of this place as soon as her contract is up and I graduate. Thankfully, that will be in June 09.

One last thing. Learn Spanish, or you won't be able to survive. The population is 90+% Hispanic, and most people here either can't or won't speak English most of the time.

I recommend you use the search function on this site, to look up what other nurses have said about conditions in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

If you weren't talking about the one in McAllen...well, nevermind me then!

As the previous post writes, I totally agree. I too am getting out of here as soon as I can. I hate this place so much. If you are not here yet you can send me a PM. Out of all the hospitals in the RGV, I think this is the best, but believe me, it's not saying much. You get a huge pt load no matter which hospital you work at, and you better know spanish, or you won't be able to speak to a large % of your pts. You need to think long and hard before coming here if you can help it.
