Do You Go By First Or Last Name At Work?

Published

Just curious to know. Let's get a census going :p

I wonder if using the last name only is a cultural thing? I hear it a lot but only with the hispanic folks or sometimes with the Native Americans. The nurses and techs call them by their last name only. I tend to use first names for those who have specified it and also the ones with dementia because it gets their attention a little easier somehow.

Some very interesting responses so far. . seems as if most people go by their first names. How do you feel that the name we use at work influences our professional image? Should CNA's be called by their last name to "claim" respect (just as those who are "higher on the totem pole")? On a superficial level of course. . .

I also have my last name on my badge covered up for privacy (we get our fair share of psychos -- both patients AND families) but most of my coworkers know what it is anyways.

You are too funny!!! I am very strict about privacy as well. Now, unfortunately (long story) my whole building knows my first AND last name (it's all in fun, though) - and you know I just started this week!!! :lol2: With that being said, I'm going to have to figure something out. . . Tee-hee
