Anyone work for the VA? Do they hire new BSN grads?

A few graduates from my school last year went to the VA upon graduation. I am not sure about in your area though.

Hi,

I agree with the last post. In Denver, some of my "BSN new grad cohorts" were hired into the VA. They went straight into the Surgical ICU and were really liking it after one year. It was a bit stressful, as it always is--going from new grad--straight into the ICU. However, one of the nurses was advanced to "charge rn". The VA had a great loan repayment program then....

Give your Local VA a call...

Yes, they call them Graduate Nurse Technicians (at least at our VA --in VISN15). My state has a graduate nurse policy for new grads (you can practice as a GN until you take NCLEX).

I started somewhere else for eight months and then went to the VA. I think that was better for me, because I already knew some of the stuff when I went to the VA.

I assume by your title that you are in Omaha. The VA in Omaha does hire new grads, but it is often difficult. Most new grads start on the med-surg floor. However, the Omaha VA just opened a new ICU, so you might get in there. My class just graduated and we had 2 students do their senior preceptorship at the VA. I think of of them was offered a job, but I don't know if she accepted it. I'm in Omaha now, so if you have any questions just ask

recent BSN

I know 3 new grads from my school who just got hired and start this week.
