Do nursing students still wear caps?

I found out yesterday that we wear caps. I thought those were obsolete. I thought they carried germs in and out of the hospital so nurses stopped wearing. Any other schools wear caps?

We don't have to have caps as far as I know.

I've seen pictures of graduating classes posted in the halls of my college and some nursing students have caps and some don't (major is stated underneath their name, it's all health related). So I'm just guessing its an optional thing, but I'm not really sure! I just started and the subject hasn't been brought up..yet!

My L.P.N. class wore caps for our graduation ceremony. They were supplied by the school and we were able to keep them. It was nice for graduation. I kind of felt proud wearing it.:wink2: It's a nice reminder of my accomplishment. I personally would not want to wear one on a daily basis.

The cap I graduated in was positively revolting. No one, and I mean no one, ever wore that cap again. The following year, however, the associated professor whose class selected that cap retired, and a new, up-to-date nad beautiful cap was chosen. I would love to have that cap again, and I would proudly wear it every day. Since you can't tell the nurses from the housekeepers any more, they would be sign of our profession and of our pride.
