Do you have both nursing home and home health experience?

Specialties Home Health

I recently left my nursing home position as a cna/psw in Canada, because of sheer burn out, took me eight years to reach that point. I was tired of the politics and favourtism that went along with it, in other words I was not the one to be in the admins office gossiping and rubbing her feet.

I have secured an interview to work for a home health company, which I am very excited about, as it will provide me with new opportunities to grow as a nurse. They have contacted me twice about this position and are very accomodating

Please share with me your experiences working for home health/nursing home and which do you prefer?

Specializes in Med/Surge, Psych, LTC, Home Health.

It's rather hard to compare the two. =) I guess I'll just say, I've worked nursing home and home health and hands down, no question, I prefer home health.

I am beginning to see that I would apply more of my nursing skills in home health than I did in the nursing home.

Thank you for your comment

Specializes in Psych.

I have done nursing home and home health as well, and I love home health! I wish I would've made the move a lot sooner!

Specializes in LTC/SNF.

I prefer home health. I felt like a pill vending machine in LTC. In home health I actually get to help most of my patients get better. I have time to spend with them to actually do teaching. I make care plans that I can actually implement.
