I would like to one day become an RN and work L&D, but in the meantime do you know of any LPNs that work L&D or maybe even for an OBGYN? I would like to get some experience along the way. Thanks!
I know that there are some, but I think for the most part L&D is mainly RN's. I know that 1 hospital around here will hire LPN's for the mother baby unit. I would call around to your local hospitals and see what they say. It really depends hospital to hospital.
You might want to ask your question in the specialty OB section!
Good luck!
(OB/NICU is my passion too, I am hoping to score a spot on M/B while I finish ADN school)
As an LPN/LVN, you'd have a slightly better chance getting hired onto a postpartum unit or mother/baby unit if you want that type of experience. In many places, L&D is the sole realm of the RN due to issues revolving around the scope of practice, initial assessment, and sedating IV drugs that the nurse must give.
By the way, one of my LPN acquaintances works on a mother/baby unit in a hospital. However, she had to work in nursing homes for a year before landing that treasured position.
