Do I need to take chemistry for the TEAVs?

Published

I do not need chemistry as a pre-req for the nursing school of my choice, but I do need to do well on the TEAVs. I could save a whole semester if I didn't have to take chemistry.

I am wondering if I can skip taking chemistry and do a bit of home study perhaps with a chemistry EZ book, cliff note style book, and KhanAcademy and still do well on the TEAVs? I would rather save the time and money - but if I need it I will take it.

I do not have any chemistry background except what I learned in biology so far.

For those who have taken chemistry or not and taken the TEAVs, what do you think???

I just took my TEAS V. Don't need to take chemistry class. There is chemistry on the test but it is high school level chemistry. And it is pretty basic. You will be fine studying the material on your own. Use the ATI guide and khanacademy is great, I actually found it to be more in depth than necessary. Just know how to calculate electrons, protons, etc. Know how the periodic table works, and difference between metals and non-metals, etc. Know how to balance reactions. Know saturated vs. unsaturated (alkene, alkine, and alkyne). Properties of water. Basic stuff like that. I got an 85%, and I studied chemistry for literally 1 afternoon.

Don't forget, there are also physics questions. Good luck!

I have not taken it. Chemistry is 1 chapter in all the books of the classes that are pre-requisites for all programs. After taking a chemistry class I have to say that I believe that 1 chapter is sufficient information for the exam.

All the science on the Teas is basic.

I wouldnt take chem if you dont need it but taking Chem will help you out tremendously. You can learn the stuff from the book and you tube videos without the class.

I plan to do a home study course at least for chemistry including online lectures. I just want to save the money and a semester of time!
