This is going to sound like a stupid question, but none of my friends or classmates can give me a straight or even right answer?
Do I need to get into a post graduate programme in NZL? I have friends who have gotten jobs in rest homes post grad because they couldn't get into any programmes, others have said you do need a post grad programme to get really good jobs in the future. Others have said you can get hospital jobs right out of school without it being a PG progm.
I take the rego exam in July, and have applied for the CCDHB post grad prog but if I don't get it, will my future and my CV be muted somewhat because I dont' have a post grad?
And with that said, am I stuck getting a job in an elder care centre if I dont get a post grad programme?
Thanks for any help or answer.

I have a few friends who work as RN's in NZ and they don't have a post-grad. One of my friend's went straight from Otago University to a hospital in Melbourne. Usually nurses will do a post-grad after gaining a couple of years work experience. I am sure a post-grad will be helpful for your career but not having one initially isn't going to hinder your chances of getting a job.
Hi
When nurses finish their degree, 99.9% of the nurses complete "nurse entry to practice" I.E a supported year to enable grads to get rid of their training wheels with the district health boards
If you want to work in New Zealand within the district health boards as an RN and have qualified in NZ, you have to complete a year with them.
If you have newly completed your degree overseas for example UK and have not had any work experience of at least a year within the hospital system, the DHB are unlikely to emply you, or you will work under supervision or join the nurse entry to practice programme
When Refering to post grad courses, I was referring to the nurse entry to practice. You are advise as a newly qualified nurse to embark on post grad papers, ie a speciality or towards yr Masters degree. However, some of the nurse entry to practice placements contain papers you can enter towards your masters degree.
This is all fresh in my mind as i have finished my degree 3 weeks ago:yeah:
