  1. Hi jabbajaws, I am also thinking about moving to the UK. Where did you sit the exam?
  2. Hi Has the wound got depth, if so the negative pressure therapy cound be an option
  3. I did'nt undertake a 3 year degree to become "your nurse" Nursing is a profession, I am not employed by you, I, like you are employed by a hospital. A patient in hospital is cared for by a TEAM of professionals including RN's, doctors, physio's, occupational therapists, dietians, we all play our part, Nursing and the provision of medical care is and always has been 24 hours a day, those who can't handle it need to consider their choice of career.
  4. Hi When nurses finish their degree, 99.9% of the nurses complete "nurse entry to practice" I.E a supported year to enable grads to get rid of their training wheels with the district health boards If you want to work in New Zealand within the district health boards as an RN and have qualified in NZ, you have to complete a year with them. If you have newly completed your degree overseas for example UK and have not had any work experience of at least a year within the hospital system, the DHB are unlikely to emply you, or you will work under supervision or join the nurse entry to practice programme When Refering to post grad courses, I was referring to the nurse entry to practice. You are advise as a newly qualified nurse to embark on post grad papers, ie a speciality or towards yr Masters degree. However, some of the nurse entry to practice placements contain papers you can enter towards your masters degree. This is all fresh in my mind as i have finished my degree 3 weeks ago:yeah:
  5. http://www.nzno.org.nz/includes/download.aspx?ID=29373 This pay scale is applicable and applied to district health boards, other health providers are sometimes a little behind taking these pay scaled up hope it helps
  6. Hi, equivalent to HV in New Zealand is a Plunkett nurse (yes thats the name!) google them, they are nationwide, are a charitable organisation. Not NHS tied like UK. New Zealand health service is disjointed and not as streamlined as UK hope this helps
  7. Hi, We have just had the CDHB netp board speak to us in christchurch and they said basically they wont really employ anyone who hasnt done the netp
  8. Hi , i am just about to finish my pysch rotation and were encouraged to spend 1:1 time with pts. We were advised on OUR safety being priority, gave meds and we were allocated at least 3 pts per shift and if risk assessment was ok it was fine (if ok with pts) to enter their room.
  9. me too i'm lovin psych. I feel right at home..
  10. I know that smell, I thought it was to either DKA or from ERF, both patients were terminal though.
  11. I agree with you guys, I sit in a class sometimes and think "what am I doing here" NS and clinical placements have not been the joyous occasions I though they maybe.
  12. GeekyRN I agree with everything you have said. New Grads and student nurses can have a difficult time especially when they have no support. I have been there. My incident also happened on a med/surg ward. I was devastated for a couple of days but snapped out of it and thought that this idiot is not ruining my placement. I will be a better nurse instead, But I do think that people do get caught up in their own little microcosm and need to step out of it for a little while, being nice costs nothing pay it forward
  13. lol, I remember setting off a little too early to my clinical placement last year, I parked the car and was thinking hmm my feet are all toasty and warm. I looked down and saw a pair of knee high barbie pink slipper boots on my feet, the left of which had a huge mayaonnaise type splat on them from my sandwich making far too early in the morning. I didnt have my mobile phone with me to call the ward to say I would be a little late cos I needed to zip back home and change, so I had to walk to the ward and explain to the charge nurse that I had to go home and change my fab pink boots. Not my greatest day
  14. Hi, I am also a 2nd year student who will also qualify in August next year, only I am ex UK and doing my degree in NZ. The only info I could give you is to contac the district health boards (equiv of NHS) as they provide graduate programmes. You will need residency for this though. Salary for grads is 40k nzd + but this may change next year. hope this helps
