Do I even have a shot for CRNA schools?

Published

Hi, I am really just looking for some advice. I really want to go to CRNA school, but I don't know if I am competitive enough. I see that some schools require pre-req courses like organic chemistry and biology. When I first entered college, I bombed all of my classes and because I came in as a bio major, I had to take all the pre-req courses like bio, chem, orgo, calc. And i'm saying, gpa is around like a 2.4 here. However, when I found out about nursing, I just loved it so much. My nursing school gpa is around a 3.8 and will be even higher because I will be graduating this coming year. Do you think I should retake my pre-reqs? I work right now at a top hospital in the US and will be most likely getting a job afterwards in the ICU. Please give me some insight!

You may want to get in touch with a few CRNA programs/schools that you're interested in to discuss your concerns. Some may not care what your non-nursing GPA is like -- unlikely, but you never know. You can always err on the side of caution and retake classes with poor grades (C or below), which is probably what I would do. I've heard CRNA programs are highly, highly competitive, so you should probably do everything you can to make yourself more valuable to potential schools.

Follow the PP advice. My only thing is, and not to sound rude, rather curious, how did you manage to enter a nursing program with 2.4 GPA???
