Do most hospitals have dress codes?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I don't even start nusing school until next year, but this is just something I was wondering about. Are most hospitals moving towards having dress codes? As in, all staff members on a certain floor or in a certain department have to wear solid scrubs in one color? I hate the idea of this. It seems so dull and boring.

Anyone know? Lol just wondering...

Most hospitals have some type of dress code. What type depends on the facility. Some have floors that wear all one color no matter what position one holds. Some places have nurses that wear one color, CNAs another, etc. I work on a mother/baby floor and we have no real dress code except scrubs that have to be neat & unsoiled. Our OR and Labor/delivery staff have scrubs supplied by the hospital because of the high probability of exposure to body fluids.

So it just depends on where you are what the dress code is.

I agree with Elvish, it just depends on where you work. I have worked at places that don't care what you wear as long as they are scrubs and as long as nothing is hanging out! Lately, most of the hospital systems are going to specific colors depending on your dept (nurses-navy blue, respiratory-olive green, PT/OT-maroon, etc.). As long as you wear the designated color most don't care about the style of the scrubs (flare legs, cargo pants, etc) so you can still express some personal style within the rules!

I think that having the same color for the same dept or rank is a great idea. We, however, don't have specific colors, but are allowed to just dress with clean unsoiled clothes.
