I work pedi home health in TX - they pay mileage for per visit cases as well as private duty cases at all of the agencies I have worked for. Case managers are generally salaried but also receive mileage reimbursement. Mileage is around .36. Here is a thought: I think you can claim mileage on your income taxes and be reimbursed around .40 a mile. My husband does our taxes, so my knowledge is limited. Because I am paid by my employer, I do not claim mileage on taxes.
It sounds like you're referring to Private Duty. I wouldn't expect any mileage reimbursement. Like another poster said...nobody pays you to go back and forth to work. Even in home health visits. They pay mileage but not to the office or the first patient of the day nor do they pay home from the office or the last patient of the day. $7.00 seems awfully low. Skilled private duty cases with an LPN take in $25-$30/hr and they're paying you $7.00/hr? Years ago when I was an LPN and going to school to get my RN I did private duty so that I could do some studying at work. I was making $15.00 an hour back then. I would think twice before going to work for them. You should check with a different agency. Good Luck!

I am an LPN in NC and have recently decided to do some pediatric home health to supplement our income and to keep up my nursing skills. I have signed on with Bayada Nurses and if I accept the client they want me to take, will be driving about an hour to provide care. This would be my only client and I will only be working Wed/Thurs for them. The pay rate is quite low {$7 less/hr} compared to what I currently make in a psychiatric facility on weekends. Should I expect to be paid for mileage? I do not orientate with them till Thursday and did not think to ask during the interview.
