Hi all-
I was wondering if your grades earned during your MSN/NP program matter when looking for a job. Will employers take someone with a 3.9 over someone with a 3.0?
Also, does the school you graduated from matter? Are all accredited programs treated equally?
Thanks in advance,
Serpico

I would be suprised if they asked you about your grades when you apply for a job. I know in my office they do not ask that. However, on my resume I have which college I graduated from and that I graduated with honors. I do not know if that makes a differance but I stuck it in anyway!

grades do not and should never come up in this situation. heck, i do not even remember some of mine. as for where you obtained your education.....this usually does not tilt the chances of being hired or not. it does look good to have graduated from some schools over another. looks impressive, however, your ability, experience, etc. is all that matters.
good luck!!!!!!!!!

I had good grades, but I wouldn't work for someone that asked that of me. If they ask me that, I know that they're friggin crazy and would be the type that would create stupid policies that don't make any sense. Good employers know that any schmo can get good grades but that has nothing to do with whether or not they are good clinicians. Good grades in the NP program might even make me suspicious of someone as crazy as the education is.

Hello,
It is not about the grades anymore. It is about who you know, to be honest. Grades, in my opinion are not an indication of clinical skills at all. Grades are a scale that measures how well the information is store in the brain. Hey, did you like that line? LOL. Many people who did not graduate high school are successful as those who did graduate high school as well as college. You cannot look at someone and determine thier destiny in a job by grades....that is absolutely ridiculous.
As I stated above, it is about who you know to get that ultimate job. Also, it is about how you market yourself, present yourself and the determination you have for yourself and the job. Therefore, be proud of your grades, remember the people you meet through clinical and other settings, market yourself and be determine in job seeking.
To the second part of your question, does the school you attend has an influence of the position you seek. Yes, and No. Yes, because everyone takes care of those who graduate from their college/university....scratch my back and I will scratch your back....you know what I mean? No, because some employers want to know if you can do the job or not. Oh, I forgot...If you attend an IVY league school or penn state or the top colleges in the united states ....it shows you were able to get in and stay in. On a serious note, sometimes the top colleges have more placements in jobs than the no-name colleges. But who cares? Therefore, some people cannot go to afford to attend the best colleges/universities in the USA, but they can be great students and possess the clinical skills needed for the position.
In conclusion, do not get hung up on grades, the college/university names and etc. Just be able to market yourself, obtain the knowledge and skills to do the job well, market yourself and lastly, be determine to obtain the job and do well.
