I almost spit my coffee out! I have found myself doing this on numerous occasions in numerous locations. My wife is afraid of needles but has GREAT veins, and the other day I told her, "I wonder what it would be like to start a scalp IV in an adult, can I try it on you?" Needless to say she wasn't nearly as amused by this thought as I was :)

I love this site, not only is it very informative, but at least once a day it brings a smile to my face (or a beverage shooting out my nose from laughter).

Yep, doing it, too.

Since becoming a CRNA, though, I also find myself looking at their chin(s) and teeth and wondering if they would be easy or difficult to intubate.

I look at their eyes to evaluate whether or not the eye surgeon would have difficulty getting out a cataract on them.

Sometimes I feel like I don't see people any more so much as a collection of body parts being evaluated for the OR table. It can be a bit surreal.

but when the veins are in the butt...not so much.

I frequently ogle hunky young things, but not their veins...what a waste of a good ogle!

I think I shall faint now...and don't any of you dare ogle my veins while I'm unconscious!

Yep yep, must be a nurse thing cause I do it too !!! Hubby gets creeped out by it and my youngest is so pale I can see his all the way up his arm LOL...

LOL this is cracking me up. Is this what I have to look forward to? I am starting school in June. Up to this point the object of my ogling has simply been abs - I spend a lot of time at swim meets - am I about to forgo abs for veins!?

I'm always telling my 14 yr old athlete son that he has garden hoses for veins and that I want to start an IV on him... he shudders LOL

Don't you DARE! Unless, of course, you oggle the abs first. :clown::redpinkhe

I used that line on my husband when we were dating. I'm the only nurse he ever dated and he was completely gobsmacked when I said it.

I think if it had been any earlier in the relationship it might have been enough to scare him off!
