Do you donate to your alma mater?

My graduate school is having some sort of fund-raising drive but so far I've resisted donating because I feel I already paid a hefty amount as I was an out-of-state student. However I am considering making a donation to my undergrad school this year. It'll probably be the last one for awhile because my kid will be going to college next year.

No.

I don't trust that who handles the money. I don't think my donation will go towards education, the pursuit of knowledge or anything that really affects students.

I attended what is known as a "second tier" school.

The education was good, but the prestige was lacking. Second tier schools are notorious for throwing money at the pursuit of prestige and status and marketing.

My dollar would go towards a sports stadium rather than lab supplies.

If you tell them what the money is for, they cannot use it for anything else. It is called a gift provision.
