Hello everyone,I need some advice,I live in Suffolk county NY,I am graduating on 4/24/2005,I have a interview at Southside Hospital next week,also Winthrop Hosp has been calling,for some reason I am so nervous about seeking out a hospital job,what is expected of a new grad RN in the hospitals?Southside has a good orientation program,but I'm just so nervous that when I start working I am going to be asked to do something I know nothing about,and it's not like in clinicals with nursing school when you could whip out your skills book at the bedside.Has anyone else felt this way,and how did you overcome it.I appreciate your input.Thanks,DL :uhoh21:

The whole point of orientation is to teach you what you need to know to work where you've been hired. During orientation you will learn almost everything from Policy and Procedure to how to operate the IV pump. The biggest expectation is that you will pay attention, ask questions and seek help when you need it. Guess what? When you get to the floor, I guarantee that there will be at least one fast facts or nsg skills book on the floor that belongs to one of the other RNs, as well as 4-5 copies of different nsg drug guides. So feel free to bring your own if you like, but keep in mind that the P&P manual will also have the steps for certain tasks/skills. There will be resources everywhere around you. Everybody is nervous about their first nsg job, its okay - you'll become more relaxed/confident with more experience.
